Digital nomad destination choices via Airbnb reviews
This paper uses a data set from 847,293 reviews on accommodation units to understand digital nomads’ destinations choices for and perception of the Airbnb brand. Using an established classifier to identify digital nomad-related postings, this study used a validated classifier to identify 43,672 reviews related to digital nomad bookings. The results indicated that among all destinations represented within those reviews, the highest proportions were for Portugal, Mexico, and Thailand. In addition to indicating that host responsiveness and internet quality had the greatest positive association with accommodation ratings, the findings also demonstrated that complaints about the quality of the internet were more negatively associated with brand sentiment than complaints about the location.
