The Principle of Nonuniformity Three Structural Quantities, Two-Ledger Dynamics, and the Correct Classification of Aggregation Limits

Abstract: The macroscopic phenomenological apparatus of open flow-through systems — an income-minus-expenditure master equation, a gradient-flow relaxation, and a quasi-potential landscape — is usually posed as a set of postulates. This paper assembles that apparatus into a diagnostic framework and draws its boundary of validity. The organizing proposition is retained as a first principle for open systems, the Principle of Nonuniformity: the state of an open system departs structurally from uniformity along both a cross-sectional and a temporal axis, a departure supplied continuously by work and paid for by non-negative internal entropy production.V12 makes seven corrections and three completions to V11. Two of the corrections withdraw a structural claim, and one reverses the sign of the framework’s lowest-threshold prediction. They are listed here in brief; each is argued where it occurs.One. The relaxation kernel of an age-structured stock is a transport kernel, not a Laplace transform, and the sign of prediction P1 reverses with it (§7.5). Two. The open-loop gain carries the squared active fraction and the sign branch, and its denominator is the total decay rate of the stock rather than the effective deactivation rate of the activity equation; the combined bistability parameter carries the sign branch as well, so the phase regions and the sign branches are not orthogonal and the three-by-three phase diagram is withdrawn (§4.4 and §4.8). Three. The exchange coefficient diverges at the fossil state, so the self-check that evaluates the margin there is restated as a limit (§4.6). Four. Sections 9.3 and 9.5 of V11 asserted opposite things about the spatial profile at a jump-type transition point; the pairing of jump type with an exponential profile fails on the spinodal and is corrected throughout (§9.3). Five. The canonical statement of the transition criterion is phrased on the structure of the fixed-point set rather than on losing a fixed point, since a transcritical bifurcation loses none (§9.1). Six. Within the count classification, under-dispersion is the signature of saturation and not of the fossil state, the closed form F = 1 − Φ★ returning to one as the active fraction vanishes; a two-dimensional discrimination protocol is supplied and the expanding column of the combined diagram is marked empty (§4.8). Seven. A truncated-power-law tail has a moment generating function finite in a neighbourhood of zero, not everywhere, and the inner segment of a screened spatial profile has exponent d − 2, which is logarithmic at d = 2 (§3.2, §4.7, §8.2).The three completions are: the aggregation-limit table acquires the third coordinate that the classification companion supplies, so that the truncated power law has a cell; the notation appendix is completed, four symbols used in the body having had no entry; and prediction P10 is either derived or withdrawn rather than left standing without a derivation. The first correction is the one that changes a conclusion rather than a statement, so it is worth one sentence here.A Laplace transform of a positive measure is log-convex, so the V11 kernel returned a positive second derivative of the log-recovery curve for every age profile whatever, and the prediction it produced was a property of the transform rather than of the mechanism. With the transport kernel, heterogeneity in age-independent rates convexifies while age-directed replacement concavifies, so one perturbation-recovery experiment now separates three mechanisms by three signs instead of distinguishing a positive value from zero.
