Five-Dimensional Hydrodynamic Spacetime: Time Density and Dark Energy Complementarity

We propose a theoretical framework in which time is treated as a physical substance characterized by a density field ρ_time(x,t). This "hydrodynamic spacetime" theory introduces a complementarity principle: the product of time density (the w-potential) and dark energy density (the drawing cost) is locally constant, w × ρ_DE = const. Regions containing matter require additional drawing costs to maintain their structure, increasing ρ_DE and decreasing w—which is the geometric origin of gravitational time dilation. The total time density of the universe is conserved: ρ̄_time(t) · a(t)³ = E_0, where E_0 is a constant determined at the birth of the universe. By formulating this theory in a five-dimensional spacetime with coordinates (x,y,z,w,t), where w represents the geometric manifestation of time density, we derive observable consequences including gravitational time dilation and provide a geometric foundation for energy-momentum relations. A central result is that the background metric is five-dimensional Minkowski spacetime in Rindler coordinates, with the five-dimensional Riemann tensor vanishing identically (R^(5)_MNPQ = 0). Through Gauss-Codazzi decomposition, the four-dimensional effective Einstein equations on the w = w_max hypersurface naturally reproduce standard general relativity, including the correct light deflection angle 4GM/(bc²). Here w_max(t) is the cosmic-vacuum w-value—the brane location of observers—which sets the lapse function dτ/dt = w/w_max and the local light speed c(w) = (w/w_max)c_0, so that the vacuum itself realizes the reference rate dτ/dt = 1. At the present epoch w_max ≈ ℏ/(m_e c), a relation fixed by the electron's role as the marginally stable lightest charged particle. Dark energy is reinterpreted as "drawing energy"—the cost required to maintain spatial dimensions and particle structures within the five-dimensional spacetime. This cost prevents space and particles from losing their dimensional extent. It is locally unobservable (by the equivalence principle) but drives cosmological expansion, providing a geometric resolution of the cosmological constant problem. This resolution is now quantitative: the asymptotic expansion rate follows in closed form, ℏ H_∞ = (m_e³/M_P²)(4π)^(16/3+6g_0), reproducing the observed value to +0.3% with no fitted parameter—the drawing budget freezes at the maintenance floor of the drawn structure. Both structural pillars of this statement are now derived rather than assumed: the ladder unit ln(4π) follows from isotropic dispersal through point-like ports, and the Laue-type protection—closed internal maintenance circulation does not gravitate—is established as a pair of exact theorems plus a single booking principle (Paper II). The transient surplus above the floor yields a registered, parameter-free template for a genuine percent-level evolving dark-energy equation of state, 1+w(z) = Ω_m(z) [2Fln(4π)]⁻¹(1+δ(z))⁻¹ with F = 16/3+6g_0 and δ(z) fixed by equipartition over the ladder. The theory successfully reproduces known effects such as GPS time dilation (Δτ/τ ~ 10^(-9)) and is fully consistent with general relativity in the weak-field limit. The quantum mechanical implications of this framework are developed in Paper II. Dark matter as temporal displacement is addressed in Paper III.
