CONTRA THE BANALIZATION OF THE SACRED IN MODERN CHURCHES
Abstract Contemporary sacred architecture lies in a state of profound anomie: confounding "noble simplicity" with functional anonymity, it has reduced places of worship to horizontal, boxy containers devoid of anagogical thrust. To flatten the space of the sacred into a purely secular dimension means forgetting that if the Divine humbles Himself to meet humanity, architecture must respond with utmost rigor, vertical elevation, and the formal tension of an unbounded love. This work proposes a paradigm shift founded on the transfer of technology and vision from naval engineering to sacred architecture. It demonstrates how structural physics, flow dynamics, and bridge ergonomics provide the ideal tools to restore the sense of Transcendence, in full compliance with Canon 1216 of the Code of Canon Law.
