Hybrid Sensorless Speed Control of SynRM Based on Dynamic and Reluctance Equivalent Back EMF Models for Wide‐Speed–Range Operation

ABSTRACT This paper proposes a hybrid sensorless speed control strategy for synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs) that operates over a wide‐speed range without requiring mechanical sensors to estimate rotor position. The work proposes a two‐region estimation framework: A dynamic inductance (DYI) model is employed in the low‐speed region to estimate rotor position. In contrast, a Reluctance Equivalent Back (REB) EMF model is utilized in the high‐speed region. A smooth transition between the two estimation modes is achieved with a speed‐based switching strategy. A full FEM simulation and experimental results on a lab prototype demonstrate that the method operates properly. The results show that the estimation is accurate, and that the dynamic performance is smooth across the entire operating speed range. The nomenclature used throughout this paper is provided after the Conclusion section.
