A New Decipherment Hypothesis for the Somerton Man Code: German Language, Vowel Deletion, and Operational Telegram Style

This paper presents a novel decipherment hypothesis for the unsolved cipher found on the body of the Somerton Man (Adelaide, Australia, December 1948). The hypothesis proposes that the cipher may be written in German using Telegrammstil (telegraph style) with selective vowel deletion. A forward encoding test demonstrates consistency between the proposed plaintext and the original ciphertext for all four active lines. Key phrases have been verified by a native German speaker. This is presented as a falsifiable hypothesis, not a definitive solution.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel decipherment hypothesis for the unsolved cipher found on the body of the Somerton Man (Adelaide, Australia, December 1948). The hypothesis proposes that the cipher may be written in German using Telegrammstil (telegraph style) with selective vowel deletion. A forward encoding test demonstrates consistency between the proposed plaintext and the original ciphertext for all four active lines. Key phrases have been verified by a native German speaker. This is presented as a falsifiable hypothesis, not a definitive solution.
