Psychometric evaluation of the Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale in Indonesian adult sample

The ACSS has been widely used to assess individuals' acceptance of cosmetic surgery; however, an Indonesian validated version is not yet available. This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Indonesian version of the Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale (ACSS). A total of 304 participants in Indonesia completed the Indonesian version of the ACSS using a seven-point response scale. Participants were aged between 18 and 56 years (M = 29, SD = 9.29). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was applied to examine the factor structure of the scale. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's α, McDonald's ω, and composite reliability (CR), while convergent validity was evaluated using the average variance extracted (AVE). The results of the CFA showed that the three-factor model consisting of Intrapersonal, Social, and Consider dimensions provided the best model fit compared to alternative models. All dimensions demonstrated satisfactory to excellent internal consistency, with Cronbach's α ranging from 0.881 to 0.927 and McDonald's ω ranging from 0.889 to 0.927. In addition, CR values exceeded the recommended threshold and AVE values supported adequate convergent validity across all dimensions. Taken together, these findings indicate that the Indonesian version of the ACSS has acceptable evidence supporting the three-factor structure, satisfactory internal consistency, and adequate construct validity. The scale can therefore be considered a reliable instrument for assessing acceptance of cosmetic surgery in psychological research within the Indonesian context.
