Toward resilient and sustainable supply chains: A bibliometric analysis of risk management and performance research (2014–2025)

Global supply chains are increasingly exposed to frequent, high-impact disruptions while simultaneously facing stricter environmental and social expectations. This study offers a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research on supply chain risk management (SCRM) and performance from 2014 to 2025, with a particular focus on resilience and sustainability. Using data from 195 Web of Science Core Collection articles (indexed in SCIE, SSCI, and ESCI) and applying performance analysis, co-occurrence, co-citation, collaboration, and thematic-evolution mapping, we identify the field's intellectual core, social structure, and research front. The results show that supply chain resilience has become the main conceptual hub linking three capability pillars—risk and disruption management, dynamic and integration capabilities, and digital/data infrastructures—to operational, financial, and emerging ESG outcomes. Thematic evolution reveals a post-COVID shift from performance- and flexibility-oriented topics toward resilience, robustness, visibility, and viability, accompanied by a gradual but incomplete integration of sustainability, cleaner production, and circular-economy themes. The collaboration network indicates a fragmented author community, with a few bridging clusters connecting traditional SCRM integration work to analytics-driven and sustainability-oriented research. The paper then proposes a structured research agenda around four axes: integrating SCRM with cleaner production and ESG performance; leveraging digital capabilities for resilient and sustainable supply chains; examining context-specific capability configurations; and advancing longitudinal, configurational, and quasi-experimental methods. The study thus provides a knowledge map that can guide future empirical work on resilient and sustainable supply chain performance.
