Zero-G Core Exercise Device

1. Describe what problem the technology solves: For long term space travel and habitation the current process for physical fitness can be greatly improved and capture the energy generated. 2. Describe what is new and better than existing technologies: Today all there is is a floor mounted foot crank. Adding a somewhat more modified traditional bike frame will allow weightless astronauts to use internal core muscles and upper body muscles for leverage to remain in the 'saddle' which will drive more power to the cranks and increase use of more muscle groups throughout the body. Additional improvements include: Cooling Fan with adjustable cowling attachments, vibration dampening anchors at all station attachment points, attachment for fan belt for Cycle Dryer (previous submission), and electrical generator attachment for either small device recharging, Dryer heating element, or station power. 3. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION Using carbon fiber or aluminum construction, the 'bike frame' will be lighter than ferrous metal frames and non conductive. The bike frame itself is a modified Y-foil design. An adjustable seat post bolted to the platform above the anchored foot cranks. From just below the seat, a cross tube extends upwards to a set of aerobars. The rider adjusts seat to comfortable height and extends/retracts aerobars for custom fit using quick release levers. Sitting in the saddle, rider grips the ends of the aerobars pulling up, activating bicep, pectoralis, lats and rhomboid muscle groups. The leverage created at the bent elbows on the aerobar cross piece engages core abdominal muscles, hip flexors, quads, hamstrings and glutes, transferring power through the saddle into the foot crank. A resistance knob at the aerobars sets crank resistance. As the crank turns, the attached fans spin, creating airflow and directed via adjustable curved cowling, onto rider or diverted to Cycle Dryer (previous submission). In addition, the resistance created by the crank turns the generator to power Cycle Dryer heating element, and rotates the dryer drum, can be used to recharge USB devices, TENS Suit (previous submission), or station batteries. This power generating flywheel can be added to the existing treadmill, cable rower, or other exercise device. HERO GAP MA-201, MA-301

Abstract
