The Thermal Breath of the Universe A Nuclear–Photon Thermodynamic Cycle and a Quantitative Test of Active Contributions to the Cosmic Microwave Background within the Tanfarid Quantum Thermodynamic Universe
The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is characterized by a present monopole temperatureT0 = 2.72548±0.00057K(Fixsen 2009; NASA LAMBDA), an energy densityuCMB ≈4.17×10−14Jm−3 ≈ 0.260eVcm−3,and a spectrum that is extraordinarily close to a perfect blackbody. Temperature anisotropies aremeasured at ∆T/T ∼ 10−5, and the redshift evolution is consistent with the adiabatic relationTCMB(z) ≈ T0(1+z).Standard cosmology interprets the CMB as predominantly relic radiation. The Tanfarid QuantumThermodynamic Universe (TQTU) examines the complementary question: whether ongoing stellarnuclear energy production, photon–matter interaction, plasma processes, excitation, ionization, recombination, scattering and radiative re-emission make any measurable contribution to theobserved microwave background. We define the dimensionless Thermal Breath fractionfTB(z) = uactive(z)uCMB,obs(z) ,and its frequency-dependent generalization fTB(ν,z). The limiting cases fTB = 0, 0 < fTB ≪ 1 andfTB ∼ 1 correspond to a purely relic CMB, a predominantly relic CMB with a measurable activecomponent, and a radical active-background interpretation, respectively. The framework is required to confront simultaneously the observed energy density, near-Planckianspectrum (FIRAS limits |µ| < 9× 10−5, |y| < 1.5×10−5 at 95% CL), anisotropy and polarizationpower spectra, foreground separation, and T(z). Existing high-redshift measurements remainconsistent with adiabatic scaling and thereby strongly constrain any substantial late-time component. The Thermal Breath hypothesis is presented as a quantitative, falsifiable research program whosecentral measurable quantity is fTB(ν,z).
