I Wanted an Interesting Career
The author discovered a love of languages as a child. Majoring in Russian in college led to graduate study, during which she held a student job that introduced her to Slavic librarianship. Her first professional position was at the University of Pittsburgh (1985–2000). Highlights included traveling frequently to the region, maintaining REESWeb, and acquiring the Alliance College Polish Collection. She then worked at Stanford University (2001–2016). She and a colleague founded the Slavic & East European Information Resources; she served as editor-in-chief from inception (2001) until 2016 (vol. 17, no. 1–2). In 2017 she received the ASEEES CLIR Distinguished Service Award.
