Organophosphine‐Mediated Reductive Homocoupling of Hydrated α‐Acylaldehydes

A PPh 3 ‐mediated reductive homocoupling reaction of hydrated α‐acylaldehydes via Kukhtin–Ramirez intermediates has been developed. Various hydrated α‐arylacylaldehydes and hydrated α‐alkoxyacylaldehydes are well‐tolerated in this transformation to rapidly assemble 1,4‐dicarbonyl compounds.

Abstract

A PPh 3 ‐mediated reductive homocoupling reaction of hydrated α‐acylaldehydes via Kukhtin–Ramirez intermediates has been developed. Various hydrated α‐arylacylaldehydes and hydrated α‐alkoxyacylaldehydes are well‐tolerated in this transformation to rapidly assemble 1,4‐dicarbonyl compounds.
