What she sent home
This poem explores the emotional and psychological realities of a woman migrant worker who leaves her child and ill mother in the hope of securing their survival. Through images of remittance, separation, withheld documents, exhaustion, and restricted movement, the poem reveals how economic responsibility can coexist with exploitation and conditions associated with forced labour. It also examines maternal sacrifice, loneliness, and suppressed trauma, while presenting poetry as a space for witnessing, emotional expression, and reflection on the psychosocial costs of migration.
