The α-Calibrated Optical Comb: One Instrument, Three Scales, One Constant
The fine-structure constant α ≈ 1/137.036 governs every photon-matter interaction in the universe. It has been measured with extraordinary precision at atomic scale (~eV) and at electroweak scale (~91 GeV). Between these two regimes — an 11-order-of-magnitude gap — α is interpolated theoretically but never measured directly. This paper proposes an instrument — a precision frequency source calibrated on α, coupled to a proprietary photon energy converter (patented, details under NDA) — capable of measuring α at keV scale for the first time. The same instrument principle, applied at three different scales, addresses three open problems: (1) the direct measurement of α in the unexplored keV gap (precision metrology); (2) the spectral signature of α in Cherenkov photons from cosmic neutrino events (neutrino physics); (3) the spectral analysis of biophotons emitted by dying cells (biophysics). The three applications share a single calibration principle and a single physical hypothesis: α governs the interaction at every scale, and the signature is readable if the instrument is calibrated on α. The paper includes falsifiable predictions for each scale.
