Simple and cost-effective cloud point extraction method for routine determination of dopamine in pharmaceutical formulations
A simple, sensitive, and accurate cloud-point extraction method has been developed and proposed for the assay of dopamine in its pure and pharmaceutical forms. The method is based on the interaction of dopamine with eosin Y in an acidic medium, forming a brightly orange-colored ion-pair complex. Then, the complex was extracted into Triton X-114 micelles and measured spectrophotometrically at 550 nm. Beer’s law was obeyed over the concentration ranges of 1-8 μg/mL with molar absorptivity 2.7 × 104 L • mol-1 • cm-1 and average recovery 100.91%. The method was applied successfully for the determination of dopamine in pharmaceutical formulation. The application of the standard addition procedure demonstrates that the approach was unaffected by the excipients and additives found in the dosage form.
