Synthesis, Characterization, and Spectroscopic Properties of a Thiophene-Based Fluorene Derivative

Fluorene-based compounds have attracted considerable attention in recent years due to their diverse biological activities and rich photophysical properties. In this study, a thiophene-containing fluorene derivative was synthesized and structurally characterized by ¹H-NMR, ¹³C-NMR, FT-IR, and GC-MS spectroscopic techniques. The spectroscopic properties of the synthesized compound were investigated using UV–Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The UV–Vis spectra recorded in solvents of different polarity revealed that the absorption bands remain largely unchanged. In contrast, fluorescence measurements showed that the compound 1 exhibits remarkably strong emission, particularly in DMSO, clearly visible to the naked eye. Also, the high emission intensity in DMSO was found to be remarkably stable, with no significant degradation observed over 2 hours of continuous monitoring. High photostability, a large Stokes shift, and a significant emission difference observed in DMSO under UV light make compound 1 an ideal candidate for fluorescence-based studies and imaging applications.
