Agroforestry: Resilient Livestock & Nutrient Cycles
This poster is designed to inspire discussion among farmers during agroforestry workshops, with a focus on integrating trees, shrubs, and livestock in Sahelian farming systems. The poster describes the following synergies and nutrient cycles: Trees and shrubs provide nutritious leaves, fruits, and shade that improve livestock health and the quality of animal products. In turn, livestock produce nutrient-rich manure that enhances soil fertility and soil health, improving water retention and increasing crop yields. By protecting and promoting the growth and regeneration of trees and shrubs, farmers can secure a continuous supply of high-quality forage, creating a more resilient, productive, and sustainable farming system. This poster is based on findings from the Sustain Sahel project. We sincerely thank all the farmers, producers, and scientists whose knowledge and contributions made this work possible.
