A review of contemporary research on eating disorders in the Ukrainian context
PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review is timely given the increasing volume of research on eating disorders in Ukraine that remains insufficiently synthesized. The article focuses on contemporary research on eating disorders and disordered eating within the Ukrainian context and aims to identify the main focal points of scientific inquiry among Ukrainian scholars. RECENT FINDINGS: Recent studies highlight several key themes in the Ukrainian literature on eating disorders, including their association with: comorbidity; medical (biological) context; characteristics of adolescents and early adulthood; psychological trauma; and war-related and crisis circumstances. SUMMARY: These findings have important implications for clinical practice to improve the selection of interventions and psychodiagnostics approaches. They also highlight the need for further research on the role of the psychosocial environment in the development of eating disorders as well as the contribution of comorbid mental disorders to their onset and course.
