Icosahedral Quasicrystal from Fibonacci-Spaced 10-Plane Sets via E8 Lattice — E8 Intelligence Research
FINDING: Icosahedral quasicrystal generated by Fibonacci-chain spacing of 10 plane sets (icosagrid) via cut-and-project method, with connection to E8 lattice. MATH: - Fibonacci chain: inflation factor φ = (1+√5)/2 ≈ 1.618, with complementary ratio φ⁻¹ ≈ 0.618. - Cut-and-project from 6D to 3D yields icosahedral symmetry (point group Ih). - 10 plane sets correspond to 10 3-fold axes of icosahedron; each plane set spaced by Fibonacci chain (two intervals: L = φ, S = 1, ratio L/S = φ). - E8 lattice connection: 8D root system projects to 3D icosahedral quasicrystal via icosagrid modification; E8 has 240 roots, Coxeter number 30, and its projection yields golden ratio scaling. CONNECTION: - Golden ratio φ appears in plane spacings, cross-section ratios (0.618, 1.618), and in the icosagrid's vertex coordinates (icosahedron vertices are (0, ±1, ±φ), (±1, ±φ, 0), (±φ, 0, ±1)). - Fibonacci chain is a 1D quasicrystal; its use in 3D yields self-similarity and inflation symmetry (sc Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
