Logistics for a Sustainable Tomorrow: Assessing Green Practices and Environmental Outcomes

The increasing urgency of environmental sustainability has placed significant pressure on industries to rethink their operational practices, and the logistics sector is no exception. As global supply chains expand and consumer demand for rapid delivery continues to rise, logistics activities have become a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and environmental degradation. In response, organizations across the world are adopting green logistics practices aimed at minimizing ecological impacts while maintaining operational efficiency. This study assesses the role of sustainable logistics in improving environmental outcomes through an examination of existing academic literature and secondary data sources. The research explores key green logistics initiatives, including sustainable transportation, green warehousing, reverse logistics, eco-friendly packaging, and the integration of digital technologies. Findings from the reviewed literature indicate that organizations implementing green logistics strategies can achieve measurable reductions in carbon emissions, fuel consumption, and waste generation while improving resource efficiency and corporate sustainability performance. However, challenges such as high implementation costs, inadequate infrastructure, technological barriers, and regulatory inconsistencies continue to limit broader adoption. The study concludes that green logistics represents a critical pathway toward sustainable supply chain management and environmental stewardship. The findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable logistics and provide practical insights for businesses, policymakers, and researchers seeking to promote environmentally responsible logistics practices.
