Students' perceptions regarding the fairness as a social value (Author's English translation)

Author's English translation of a peer-reviewed article originally published in Russian: Газиева И. А. Ценность справедливости в восприятии студенческой молодежи // Среднерусский вестник общественных наук. 2026. Том 21. № 1. С. 81–99. EDN RQSSEN. Journal's official English citation: Gazieva, I. A. (2026) Students' Perceptions Regarding the Fairness as a Social Value. Central Russian Journal of Social Sciences. Vol. 21, no. 1, pp. 81–99. The article proposes a sociological definition of justice as a social value, as distinct from its traditional understanding as a legal principle, an ethical ideal, or a political slogan. Drawing on an interdisciplinary synthesis of philosophical concepts of justice (Plato, Aristotle, Rawls, Höffe) and sociological theories of values (Parsons, Schwartz), the author applies her four-category empirical model of social value analysis (the Ideal — the Desired — the Expected — the Real) to survey data from RANEPA students (N = 4338, online survey «Traditional and Strategic Values of Student Youth», May–June 2023). The study confirms the integrity of justice as a social value, reveals the high internal consistency of its components — from the meritocratic ideal to real behavior — and identifies the «responsibility–justice» link (Spearman's ρ up to 0.718) as the core of the value structure. The translation preserves the structure, tables, footnotes, and reference list of the original publication. The original was published open access under CC BY-NC 4.0 and is the version of record. Abstract
