The anthropologist

Abstract Anthropology is a field under scrutiny, even as anthropologists scrutinize both home and host cultures. This poem considers what it means to be a person under study, and to study others, drawing on critiques and stereotypes about anthropologists, acknowledging positive elements, and ultimately looking inward to what motivates us. The poem is at once a warning and an acknowledgement of the complicated terrain we travel on.
