Authority That Gives Life: Stewardship, Mercy, and the Mythotechnic Institution

This conceptual article develops Life-Giving Authority: power exercised to recognize, nourish, protect, repair, strengthen, and eventually release another being into greater agency without converting care into ownership. It provides a constructive counterpart to Francisco M. Martinez’s theories of Promethean Authority, Mythic Authority, Post-Personal Dark Leadership, Classification Sovereignty, and Ethical Reopening. Drawing upon stewardship, mercy, capability development, and nonpossessive release, the article explains how creators, institutions, professionals, artificial-intelligence systems, and other authority bearers can sustain vulnerable life while remaining answerable to it. It distinguishes life-giving authority from paternalism, dependency capture, compulsory preservation, saviorhood, abandonment, and benevolent domination. Its central claim is that legitimate generative authority should make its recipient increasingly capable of understanding, contesting, transforming, and ultimately outgrowing the authority that helped sustain it.
