E8 Roots Project to Icosahedral Vertices via Golden Ratio in 3D Quasicrystals — E8 Intelligence Research
FINDING: E8 root system projects to 3D icosahedral vertices via golden ratio distances, linking 240 roots to quasicrystalline cut-and-project from 8D to 3D. MATH: - E8 root system: 240 roots in 8D, 6720 edges. - 3D projection yields icosahedral vertices: 12 vertices of icosahedron, each at distance ratios derived from golden ratio φ = (1+√5)/2 ≈ 1.618. - Icosahedral coordinates: (0, ±1, ±φ), (±1, ±φ, 0), (±φ, 0, ±1) — all distances scaled by φ. - Fibonacci chain spacing in quasicrystal: uses golden ratio continued fraction convergents (1/1, 2/1, 3/2, 5/3, 8/5, …) to generate plane sets. - Cut-and-project method: 8D lattice (E8) → 3D subspace via irrational slope (φ-related) yields icosahedral quasicrystal with diffraction peaks at positions indexed by φ. CONNECTION: - Golden ratio φ appears in vertex distances of projected E8 → icosahedron. - Icosahedral symmetry (H3 Coxeter group) is a subgroup of E8 (Weyl group). - Quasicrystal from icosagrid uses 10 plane sets, eac Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
