Digital Service Innovation and Recovery Resilience in Supply Chain Network Interruption: An Opportunity Perspective

The intricate structure of the supply chain network, combined with the uncertainty of the external environment, has made supply chains more fragile and disrupted normal logistics operations. In the digital economy age, the integration of digital technologies and innovation in services has become a vital means of facilitating the sustainable development of enterprise. However, few studies have explored how digital service innovation affects the resilience of recovery during a supply chain interruption. This study draws on opportunity theory to construct a theoretical framework for explaining how digital service innovation affects firm resilience, with a focus on examining the mediating role of opportunity search and opportunity linking, as well as the moderating role of big data analytics capabilities. Based on a survey conducted on the technology-based manufacturing enterprises in China, the results have shown the following: (1) Resilience of recovery is positively influenced by digital service innovation. (2) Opportunity searching and opportunity linking act as mediators between digital service innovation and resilience of recovery. (3) Big data analytical ability exerts a positive moderating effect on the association between digital service innovation and opportunity searching, as well as opportunity linking, which means that the greater the big data analytical ability, the greater the positive effect of digital service innovation on opportunity searching as well as opportunity linking. The current study expands the theoretical lens of digital service innovation, opportunity theory, and big data analytical ability to the area of supply chain disruption. It also offers practical insights for technology-based manufacturing enterprises in China seeking to enhance resilience of recovery during supply chain interruptions.
