Integration Between Material Design and Industrial Automation
This article was developed by Bruno Jose Amorese based on his real-world professional experience and hands-on involvement in quality engineering, manufacturing processes, material validation, and industrial automation projects. The article discusses the importance of integrating material design, quality engineering, manufacturing, and automation from the early stages of industrial projects. It examines how incompatibility between material characteristics and automated equipment can contribute to quality defects, equipment instability, production interruptions, waste, and reduced Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Drawing on practical lessons learned in manufacturing environments, the article presents approaches involving cross-functional collaboration, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), clear material specifications, structured testing, validation criteria, and continuous process-performance monitoring. Its objective is to transform real-world, hands-on industrial experience into practical guidance for professionals working in quality, manufacturing, materials, process improvement, and industrial automation.
