Modelling of single band and double band hysteresis based current controlled voltage source inverter in a microgrid
This paper presents the integration of solar photovoltaics into the grid via advanced power electronics and control techniques. Efficient power electronic interfaces enable seamless connection and operation of Solar Photo-Voltaic System (SPVS) with the grid. The voltage source inverter (VSI), acting as a shunt active power filter (SAPF), not only facilitates conversion of power but also addresses power quality issues. To achieve efficient power transfer from SPVS to both the load and the grid, a double-band hysteresis controller (DBHC) is employed. It ensures precise regulation of active and reactive power using voltage source inverter. The study considers three distinct modes based on different climatic conditions: (i) no SPVS power, (ii) inadequate SPVS power and (iii) surplus SPVS power. The extension real-reactive(p-q) power method is implemented to generate the current reference. The Single Band Hysteresis Controller (SBHC) and DBHC are implemented to track the reference current, and the performance of these controllers is analysed in terms of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). Additionally, DBHC contributes to reducing the average switching frequency and improves the parameters of time domain specifications. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated through simulations, and the system’s performance is validated using experimental results.
