Efficiency Evaluation of Solar-Based Natural Distillation Methods: A Study of Black Surface Solar Stills, Simple Solar Stills, and Plant Transpiration

In this project, I investigated the efficiency of three natural water distillation methods: the Simple Solar Still, the Black Surface Solar Still, and plant transpiration, to determine which one produces the most water and the best water quality. Over a three-day experiment, I measured the amount of water collected, along with the pH levels and total dissolved solids (TDS), in order to compare the results of each method. My results showed that the Black Surface Solar Still was the most efficient, since it produced the highest amount of water and had better purity levels compared to the other methods. Overall, I concluded that darker surfaces improve heat absorption, which increases evaporation and makes the distillation process more effective.

Abstract

Over a three-day experiment, I measured the amount of water collected, along with the pH levels and total dissolved solids (TDS), in order to compare the results of each method. My results showed that the Black Surface Solar Still was the most efficient, since it produced the highest amount of water and had better purity levels compared to the other methods. Overall, I concluded that darker surfaces improve heat absorption, which increases evaporation and makes the distillation process more effective.
