Mythotechnic Sacred Horror: Holy Presence, Counterfeit Grace, and the Technological Administration of Spiritual Dread
This conceptual article establishes Mythotechnic Sacred Horror as the eighth connected literary territory of Mythotechnic Fiction. It examines narratives in which holy presence, spiritual agency, sacramental signs, revelation, judgment, mercy, resurrection, and eschatological hope encounter technological and institutional systems that seek to detect, authenticate, classify, simulate, administer, weaponize, suppress, or replace them. The article introduces the Sacred Authority Ecology, Sacred Authority Translation Chain, Revelatory Dread, Authentication Crisis, Spiritual Classification Sovereignty, Sacramental Capture, Counterfeit Grace, Angelic Automation, Demonic Delegation, Eschatological Captivity, and Merciful Reopening. It provides a Catholic-compatible boundary grammar distinguishing God from creation, the Word from information, the Holy Spirit from energy, angels and demons from machines, sacrament from mechanism, resurrection from reconstruction, and grace from technological effect. Situated within Francisco M. Martinez’s broader Mythotechnic Fiction and Mythic Authority research program, the article explains when technological mediation of sacred reality becomes institutional metaphysics and when spiritual authority becomes dark through authentication monopolies, compulsory classification, counterfeit salvation, restricted discernment, and the closure of mercy and release.
