Recent Advances in the Synthesis of Vinyl and Aryl Zirconium Reagents: Functionalization and Applications

Vinyl and aryl organozirconium reagents are powerful organometallic intermediates in modern synthetic organic chemistry due to their high functional group tolerance and excellent controlled reactivity and regioselectivity. This review paper highlights recent developments in their design, synthesis, and functionalization, with emphasis on hydrozirconation of alkyne, transmetalation, and directed metalation strategies. These organozirconium reagents play a key role in metal-catalyzed crosscoupling reactions and selective carbon-carbon and carbonheteroatom bond formation. Developments in catalytic systems and an iterative approach have expanded their applicability in the construction of complex molecules of vinyl compounds.Organozirconium compounds reactivity, stability, mechanistic insights, and developing synthesis of various alkene scaffolds are also discussed, demonstrating the increasing potential of organozirconium chemistry for efficient and sustainable synthetic transformations and for modifying bioactive molecules.
