Assessing the Role of Human Capital in Advancing Sustainable Consumption: Training and Development for Eco-Friendly Practices
Human capital plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainable consumption by fostering eco-friendly practices through education, training, and behavioural change. This article examines how organizations can leverage their human capital to promote sustainability, focusing on training and development programmes designed to instill eco-friendly practices. The study integrates Human Capital Theory, Environmental Education Models, and Behavioural Change Theories to provide a robust theoretical framework for understanding the interplay between human capital and sustainable consumption. Findings highlight the significance of leadership, employee engagement, and skills development in driving sustainability. Moreover, the research underscores the need for effective training methodologies, stakeholder engagement, and continuous learning to overcome barriers such as cultural resistance and resource limitations. This work contributes to the literature by addressing gaps in integrating behavioural theories into sustainability training and exploring the long-term impacts of training programmes. Practical implications include recommendations for designing and implementing training programmes that align with sustainability goals and foster a culture of eco-friendly behaviour within organizations. The article concludes with a discussion on future research directions, emphasising the need for empirical validation of proposed frameworks and strategies.
