FAS mutation varies in EMZL of different sites
Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (EMZL) is an indolent low-grade B-cell malignancy that arises at diverse extranodal sites, driven by distinct chronic inflammatory conditions due to infection and/or autoimmunity. Relentless immune responses in these inflammatory conditions generate site-specific microenvironments that promote B-cell proliferation and the accumulation of somatic genetic alterations with cooperative oncogenic activities. A range of shared and site-specific genetic changes, along with both common and distinct molecular mechanisms have been identified in EMZL of various sites [1]. However, their full spectrum remains to be elucidated Discoveries made in EMZL at one anatomical site may provide a paradigm for investigating those arising at other sites.
