Subject Benchmark Statement: Medicine. Guidelines for Curriculum Design
This document, published by AQU Catalunya in 2026, provides guidelines for designing medical degree programs within the QUALINS framework. It addresses the need to adapt medical education to a shifting environment characterized by an aging population, chronic conditions, and technological advancements such as AI and telemedicine. The guide incorporates conclusions from the Health Department’s Professional Dialogue Forum to strengthen transversal competencies. The framework adopts the international CanMEDS model, defining seven key roles for physicians. It focuses on learning outcomes and promotes the use of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) and OSCE-based assessments to ensure safe and professional clinical practice. Despite high employability rates (98%), the document highlights the need to enhance student autonomy and decision-making during the transition to specialized training.
