Nomenclature Survey of the Genus Amaranthus (Amaranthaceae). 13. The Identity of Amaranthus tortuosus

ABSTRACT The name Amaranthus tortuosus , a species described by Hornemann in 1819, is currently treated in different ways, either as an accepted name, as a synonym of A. dubius or A. hybridus s.str., or as an unplaced name. In order to clarify its application, we reassessed its taxonomic identity within the genus Amaranthus . This study also considered the nomenclatural framework of a set of related names to ensure consistent application. Our results confirm the synonymy of A. tortuosus with A. hybridus , while several associated names are placed under different accepted taxa. The nomenclatural status of all treated names is updated in accordance with the ICN.
