Utilizing green-synthesized ZnO nanoparticles derived from codiaeum variegatum extract for antimicrobial activity and photocatalytic degradation of basic blue dye

The precursor solution is improved into a gel during the sol-gel procedure, which eventually turns into a solid network. Here, a simple synthetic method for the controlled production of zinc oxide nanoparticles, having excellent control over the size, shape, and crystalline characteristics of the particles, is presented, utilizing leaf extract from Codiaeum variegatum as a reducing agent. ZnO has a hexagonal form of crystalline structure with a mean crystalline material size of 18.39 nm, according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigations. The look and structure of the material's surface were further revealed by electron microscopy using field emission scanning (FESEM). The optical pictures showed substantial aggregation and a diverse morphology with rod-like nanostructures and quasi-spherical particles. Additionally, we assessed the antibacterial and photocatalytic capabilities of ZnO nanoparticles made from an extract from baobab leaves. According to photocatalytic experiments, the basic blue dye degraded by 35.02% when exposed to light. Both Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) infections were effectively combated by the nanoparticles. The findings suggest that ZnO nanoparticles can be used in antibacterial systems and wastewater treatment.
