Beyond the Yellow Bin What recycling really means in France and a proposal for a Recycling Reality Passport

This student review examines recycling in France using recent data from ADEME, Citeo, Eurostat and European institutions. It explains the differences between waste collection, sorting, recycling and the actual replacement of virgin materials. The article analyses current performance, environmental benefits and persistent challenges, particularly for plastic packaging. It also proposes an original solution called the Recycling Reality Passport (RRP-France), designed to improve transparency by tracking materials throughout the recycling process. The article includes graphs, tables and open-licence photographs. It is based on published scientific and institutional data and does not claim to present original experimental results.
