Static Diffuse Signal Processing for Open-Field Subwoofer Clusters: Implementation, Failure Analysis, and Corrective Design
This paper documents the engineering development of DiSP Sub, a VST3 plugin for static diffuse signal processing in open-field left/right subwoofer clusters. It presents three key fixes: a group-delay TDI design that prevents the impulse response from collapsing to a near-delta, a complementary subtraction method that guarantees exact crossover reconstruction, and a lock-free shared-memory hub that enables cross-instance A-vs-B decorrelation metering. All measurements use pink noise and the corrected build. Perceptual validation with a listening panel and a real cluster is stated as the next step.
