Stellate Ganglion Block as Rescue Intervention for Refractory Ventricular Arrhythmias
Ventricular arrhythmias after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) can be life-threatening. A 66-year-old man undergoing robotic-assisted CABG developed a refractory ventricular electrical storm on the 2 nd post-operative day, unresponsive to antiarrhythmic therapy. Angiography on the 3 rd post-operative day showed thrombotic occlusion of the native right coronary artery. Percutaneous coronary intervention restored flow, but ventricular ectopy persisted. A left stellate ganglion block (SGB) resolved the arrhythmia, enabling antiarrhythmic taper and discharge. This case highlights SGB as an effective rescue therapy for refractory ventricular arrhythmias.
