Difficult relations: leisure, care, and artificial intelligence

This commentary enters cautiously into the tensions associated with engaging Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a troubling actor within more-than-human relations. The premise spins out of our general interests in relational thinking, responsibility, care ethics, and collaboration, and the accelerating development and uptake of AI in leisure, tourism, and broader social contexts. In framing AI as a relation that is hard to care for, we find renewed significance in leisure. Specifically, we suggest that leisure provides a repertoire of concepts and practices that may help us push against transactional use of AI and move towards more slow, hesitant, imaginative, and accountable relations of engaging with AI.
