Admiration and Fascination: How admiration functions as our navigation system, how fascination can obscure it — and what this means for our development and for society

Version 1.1 — 17 July 2026. Working Paper of the Logik-Institut (Hamburg). English translation of the German edition (Bewunderung und Faszination, Concept-DOI 10.5281/zenodo.21285181). This paper extends version 1.0 by two building blocks: (i) a diagnostic framework with an analytical formalisation of the control and fascination axes, the generative cycle fascination → admiration → instrumentalised fascination (F → A → F'), and a 5-axis radar with falsification criteria F1–F4; and (ii) an operational access route through four worksheet templates (DE, EN, FR, ES) that make the reconstruction of the admiration side of the navigation system systematically possible. The substantive claims of Version 1.0 are preserved. The personal case-report chapter of the first edition (Chapter 9) has been removed in favour of analytical-descriptive consistency. Admiration is described analytically as a navigation system that binds to a real person with whom one feels safe — with the features person (not image), closeness (not distance), and wanting-to-understand. Fascination, by contrast, is directed at the special and is coupled to wanting-to-be-like. Both sit at the level of wanting in the modal-verb model but differ in their object. The pubertal switching point decides whether admiration is allowed to flow outward or whether fascination steps in to take over the task. On the female side, the wound of an unlived admiration is often coupled with a culturally blurred distinction between devotion and self-abandonment (transgenerational suspicion). The paper further corrects an earlier label: the manipulation mechanism previously called "instrumentalised admiration" is reassigned conceptually to instrumentalised fascination (high K, high F within the diagnostic framework). The paper is strictly analytical-descriptive and formulates no clinical or therapeutic recommendations.
