Effect of Benson Relaxation Exercise on Anxiety Level and Sleep Quality in Adolescents Receiving Inpatient Treatment in a Psychiatric Clinic

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of Benson relaxation exercise (BRE) on anxiety levels and sleep quality among adolescents receiving inpatient treatment in a psychiatric clinic. Method: The current study used a randomized controlled experimental design. The intervention group ( n = 30) performed BRE five times. The control group ( n = 30) did not receive any intervention. Both groups completed a pretest, post-test (Day 6), and follow-up test (Day 10). Results: The intervention group's state anxiety level was found to be significantly lower than that of the control group in the posttest and follow-up test. Sleep quality of the intervention group was also significantly better than that of the control group in the posttest and follow-up test. Conclusion: BRE is effective in reducing anxiety levels and improving sleep quality in adolescents in psychiatric clinics.
