Determination of the universal gas constant by using the Boyle-Mariotte isotherm.

The dependence of the pressure of an ideal gas on volume at constant temperature was measured for air in a cylinder beneath a piston. Graphs of the relationships p = f(V) and p = f(1/V) were plotted. It is shown how the universal gas constant can be determined using the p=f(1/V) graph.

Abstract

The dependence of the pressure of an ideal gas on volume at constant temperature was measured for air in a cylinder beneath a piston. Graphs of the relationships p = f(V) and p = f(1/V) were plotted. It is shown how the universal gas constant can be determined using the p=f(1/V) graph.
