Dielectric properties enhancement in 2D carbon material, reduced graphene oxide coupled MgTiO 3 perovskite

MgTiO3 (M) perovskite and rGO/MgTiO3 (rM) nanocomposite was synthesized by chemical precipitation and one-pot green synthesis methods. Their dielectric properties have been compared and reported. XRD studies reveal diffraction peaks associated with the rhombohedral crystal structure of MgTiO3 with a (1 0 4) preferential growth. Crystallite size of M decreased from 50.9 nm to 22.4 nm with rGO coupling. BET analysis confirmed that the hysteresis loops observed for M and rM are of type H3 and the estimated surface areas were 6.722 and 11.1 m2/g, respectively. The pore diameter values of M and rM were 3.08 and 3.85 nm, respectively. Higher surface area and wide pore diameter realized for the rGO/MgTiO3 resulted in the creation of more electron conduction pathways, thereby improving its dielectric behavior. Thermally excited electron hopping microwave absorption of MgTiO3 improved with rGO inclusion, increasing the dielectric constant of rM. rM exhibited high dielectric loss compared to pure MgTiO3 due to intrinsic ionic polarization of rGO and heterogeneous structure of rGO/MgTiO3 composite. Increased ac conductivity observed for rM may be attributed to defects induced with rGO inclusion and dangling bonds created in the MgTiO3 lattice. rM exhibited a low charge transfer resistance value of 4.417 × 104 Ω compared to that of M, which exhibited a value of 6.51 × 104 Ω.

Abstract

MgTiO3 (M) perovskite and rGO/MgTiO3 (rM) nanocomposite was synthesized by chemical precipitation and one-pot green synthesis methods. Their dielectric properties have been compared and reported. XRD studies reveal diffraction peaks associated with the rhombohedral crystal structure of MgTiO3 with a (1 0 4) preferential growth.
