Feminist Digital Humanities: Intersections in Practice. L. M. Rhody and S. Schreibman (Eds)

The ever-evolving technological innovations necessitate women’s participation in cyberspace not only as netizens but as active feminist technologists. Feminist Digital Humanities: Intersections in Practice underscores how digital humanities (DH) based pedagogies and methodologies are shaped by feminist practices. By challenging the prevalent inequities “DH offers rich terrain for feminists to interrogate and challenge existing hierarchies, exploring and implementing new practices through collaboration and care” (Rhody and Schreibman 2025, p. 4). The feminist DH practices promise a critical site of knowledge production through contesting marginalized forms of knowledge production. As the scholarship on feminist DH theory and practice is scanty, this book is an optimistic example of inspiring dynamic future research in DH through a revaluation of the marginalized forms of knowledge production. The editors do not connive at the multiplicity of definitions both feminism and DH are engaged with. Therefore, each chapter formulates its context with clarity and specificity. Also, based on the chapters’ context and debates, the authors define themselves as feminists, womanists, and liberalists which renders the anthology an inclusive approach by imbibing shared feminist values of care, affect, and labor. Similarly, some authors are meticulous not to label themselves as digital humanists but rather find meaning in being the representatives of the core values of DH which include but are not limited to critiquing, re/building, challenging, and subverting the structures of male privilege by highlighting the invisibility of women in the domain of DH.
