Rekonstruksie van die sensusouderdomstrukture van die Suid-Afrikaanse Asier-, Blanke en Kleurling- bevolkings: 1946 tot 1985

In view of the marked degree of undercounting in respect of all four population groups in South Africa that was evident from the 1980 census, the Central Statistical Services decided that it would itself adjust the obtained information for under-enumeration and publish the census data accordingly. Under-enumeration was again evident in the 1985 census data. Demographers of the HSRC subsequently undertook the reconstruction of the age structures of the different population groups as obtained from the censuses from 1946 to 1985. Not only were such reconstructions needed to place the historical course of population growth in a more accurate perspective, but a "correct" basis population for the present time also had to be obtained so that population projections could be made. This report sets out the reconstruction of the census age structures of the non-black population groups for the period 1946 to 1985.
