GUARGUM-GRAFTED-POLY ACRYL AMIDE AND SUCCINYL CHITOSAN MICROSPHERES AS SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CONTROLLED RELEASE OF THE CHLORPHENIRAMINE MALEATE
Guar gum-g-poly (acrylamide) and Succinyl chitosan microspheres were made by water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion method. These microspheres were loaded with Chlorpheniramine maleate (CPM) and stabilized by cross-linking with glutaraldehyde (GA). The modified microspheres have been characterized by using several techniques. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) showed that CPM was uniformly dispersed at the molecular level within the polymer matrix. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) revealed that the microspheres were spherical and well-formed, while laser diffraction analysis confirmed their particle size and distribution, ensuring consistency for drug delivery use. Swelling studies provided valuable insights into how the drug diffuses through the polymer network. The in vitro release profile of CPM, studied in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4), demonstrated a sustained release over 12 hours. The release data were further analyzed with a mathematical model to better understand the mechanism of drug transport. Overall, the results highlight that the developed AAm-g-GG/SCS microspheres have strong potential as a controlled drug delivery system, offering stable and predictable release of CPM.
