A significant southern range extension for the northern quoll ( Dasyurus hallucatus ) in Western Australia

The northern quoll (Dasyurus hallucatus) is an endangered dasyurid found in four genetically disjunct populations from Western Australia (WA) to Queensland. Fauna surveys conducted in WA recorded new localities for the northern quoll, one in the Gascoyne region and two in Gulali (Collier Range) National Park, equating to a southerly range extension of 140 km. These are the first northern quoll records for Gulali National Park and the most southerly records of the species for WA. This population may serve as an important residual population based on regulatory guidance and requires further surveys to determine the full extent of its distribution.
