Taguchi‐Based <scp>MAICRA</scp> Novel Approach for Enhancing Copper Strip Quality in Cold Rolling Through Sustainable Lubrication

ABSTRACT This study aims to enhance the surface quality and sustainability of electrolytic tough pitch (ETP) copper cold rolling through optimized process parameters and eco‐friendly lubricants. An L9 Taguchi design was used to evaluate the effects of rolling speed, roll gap, number of passes, and lubricant type. Multiresponse optimization was performed using MAICRA (Measuring Alternatives in the Criteria Range Analysis). Key responses included surface roughness, microhardness, thickness difference, flatness, temperature rise, and rolling force. ANOVA and SPC were applied for validation. Experiment No. 5 (30 m/min, 3 mm, 4 passes, MONP) yielded the best overall performance with improved surface quality, reduced thickness variation, and lower rolling force. The study is limited to laboratory‐scale trials; further research is needed under industrial conditions to assess long‐term tool wear and lubricant effects. Optimized parameters and sustainable lubricants contribute to improved quality, reduced waste, and environmentally conscious copper rolling. This study uniquely integrates Taguchi–MAICRA with quality validation tools to provide a sustainable and efficient cold rolling strategy for ETP copper.
