In-line wide band traveling wave semiconductor optical amplifiers (TW-SOAs) for optical signal processing integrated system in optical metro switching networks

Abstract This paper has simulated wideband traveling wave semiconductor optical amplifiers for optical signal processing integrated system in optical metro switching networks. In-line fiber gain variations are measured in relation to both semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) confinement factor and SOA bias current for first and second proposed models. Moreover, in-line fiber gain is demonstrated against the spectral operating wavelengths and SOA bias current with the first/second proposed models. In-line fiber gain variations are clarified against the input signal power and SOA confinement factor for the proposed first/second model. As well as in-line fiber gain is indicated in relation to both SOA temperature range and SOA bias current with the first proposed model and second proposed model. Overall fiber system quality factor and overall fiber system bit error rates are measured versus the SOA bias current for the first and second proposed models. The first proposed model has presented the optimum in-line fiber gain with the enhancement of overall fiber system quality factor rather than the second proposed model. The management of SOA bias current and active amplifier layer length are the important criteria for the optical signal processing integrated fiber system in optical metro switching networks.
