Health as the Soul's "Yes": Sleep, the Moon, and the New Medicine of Wholeness
This article presents a holistic philosophical framework for understanding health as an expression of the unity of body, mind, and soul. It argues that illness can be interpreted as a manifestation of disrupted existential integrity rather than solely as a biological dysfunction. Building upon philosophical anthropology, psychosomatic perspectives, contemplative traditions, and selected findings from sleep research, the paper explores the concept of deep slow-wave (delta) sleep as a privileged state for inner restoration and proposes that meaningful verbal influence during this state may facilitate psychological and spiritual integration. Particular attention is given to the symbolic and physiological significance of the Moon, whose rhythms are discussed in relation to human sleep patterns, consciousness, and traditional conceptions of healing. Within this conceptual framework, the article outlines the foundations of a proposed "Medicine of Wholeness," an integrative approach that seeks to complement conventional medicine by emphasizing the restoration of existential coherence, self-awareness, and the individual's connection with transcendent meaning. The study concludes that health may be understood not merely as the absence of disease but as the affirmation of human wholeness, expressed through the harmonious integration of physical, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of existence.
